Well, I don't know how successful this is going to be. However, I hope that it will work. Basically, it started when my roommate and I started to write a book together. It was actually a really decent beginning. However, as time progressed we each found it harder and harder to come up with new ideas that we agreed upon. It got so difficult that we finally decided to end the project due to its stagnancy. After a while, we thought of a better plan. We would each write the subsequent chapter, rather than make it a collaborative effort. That worked magnificently. Still, bad things did come to pass...
Needless to say, the book never was published, however, it did spark an interesting idea between the two of us. We decided that if we could do it, then why couldn't we all do it. I have found 100s and 100s of wonderful writers on this site, ranging from the simplest haiku, to enormous pieces of prose. All in all, there is lots of fantastic writing to be found here and we would like to see it all in action. The plan is exceedingly simple: we want to see the world's largest fictional collaboration. There will be your basic rules, but that shouldn't stand in the way of such a breakthru.
I've seen ideas such as this before, but with the strength of this particular community, I do not doubt that we could produce one of the most fantastic works of literature the world has ever seen. Now I am going to speak with a few individuals to decide upon the rules of this project in order to make the masterwork proceed. Soon, though, we are going to be up and running and producing: The Human Epic Project
Addendum ---
Wow, thank you for all the response. It is becoming quite large already. Since there are so many people interested, I will go ahead and make the first few rules so that we can get this on the way.
My name is Aaron. I am going to start the story. I will introduce characters that must be revisited throughout the story. We must stay principally on topic, however, that does not mean that there is no leniency in adding your own portion to the story. Everyone has their story to tell and we need to embrace this. You can add characters, kill characters, add situations, solve previous situations, but the main key is to keep the initial idea of the story alive throughout it's entirety. You can write however you want to write. It can be provocative, funny, horrific, and even erotic. You can add your own ideas, suggestions, etc.
Again the main rules are:
Keep the original story alive
Keep up the creativity and have fun
More to come!
------------ It should begin
Well, ladies and gentleman and participants of all ages. I have an extraordinary bit of writer's block at the moment and would like ideas for the beginning of the story.
Here's the basic rules about the writing that each must do who is interested:
1.) Continue the story from where the previous writer left off.
2.) Try to write at least 1000 words. It doesn't have to be that long if you can't make it that long. It can be as long as you want it to be (just avoid finishing the book).
3.) If it is taking a while to write, just keep us all posted. If you need help, keep us posted. We are here to share ideas.
4.) If you want to write, volunteer. If not, don't. If it is your turn, then I'll ask you to do so. If no one wants to at all, I will. (Every once in a while I will want to anyway).
5.) Have Fun!
